I’m on Facebook!

I love Facebook. So I figured it was about time to get a Facebook page. I quietly set it up a few weeks ago. It was supposed to be top secret until I’d arranged the furniture, hauled the cardboard boxes to recycle, and made the place look like home. However, a couple people have already found my hiding spot. So … may as well invite everybody in! (Don’t trip over that extension cord.)

What will you find here?

Books and Candlelight – How I Relax

IMG_20150318_145846512_HDR Juliean SleepingWhat’s your favorite way to relax?

If you’re following my blog (or visiting it at all), I’d be willing to bet that reading is one of your favorite modes of relaxation. Mine, too!

I have a rule at my house. (Confession: I’m terrible at following rules. But I try.) Laptop and phone have to be off by 9 p.m. It’s time to disconnect. To slow down. To reach for the Kindle or a print book.

Besides books, I also have a thing for candles. As I sit here, I count 20 candles at different stations all around my living room. (My favorite is a wax warmer in the form of a miniature cast iron skillet on a tripod.) I also have an electric fireplace that was passed down to me from my grandmother.

So all the candles are lit. The wax warmer fills the air with the smell of coffee and cream. And the fireplace crackles and glows – compliments of a light bulb inside a plastic roller painted with tiger stripes. (It was Grandma’s pride and joy back in the ’70s.)

The mood is set. I grab my Kindle or whatever book I’m currently reading. I crash on my sofa (a beat-up love seat – but it’s GREEN PLAID!) and fluff up the pillow under my head. Molly shows up, her stubby tail wiggling, and she looks at me expectantly.

“Puppy wanna sofa?” (Somehow in Molly-speak, “sofa” has become a verb.) I move my legs and tap the sofa. She jumps up, turns a circle, and settles in. There’s just barely room for the two of us – three, if Juliean decides to sit on the arm rest at my head.

And we read until bed time. Recently, we were shipmates with Jim Hawkins on the way to Treasure Island. Or rugged Scottish Highlanders running from Redcoats in Kidnapped. Sometimes we’re sleuths alongside Sherlock Holmes and Watson.

Yeah, we read a lot of classics.

What about you? How do you relax with your favorite books? Molly, Juliean, and I would love to hear about it!
